Chapter 28
17 And it happened that after three days, he summoned the leading men among the Jews. When they had come together, he said to them, "Men, brothers, I having done nothing contrary to the people or the ancestral customs, as a prisoner from Jerusalem I was handed over into the hands of the Romans." 18 who, having examined me, wanted to release me because no cause of death existed in me. 19 But when the Jews objected, I was forced to appeal to Caesar—not that I had anything to accuse my nation of. 20 For this reason therefore I called you, to see you and speak with you, for on account of the hope of Israel I am bound with this chain. 21 But they said to him, "We neither received letters about you from Judea, nor has any of the brothers arrived and reported or spoken anything evil about you." 22 But we think it worthwhile to hear from you what you think; for as for this sect, it is known to us that it is spoken against everywhere. 23 And having arranged a day with him, many came to him at the lodging, to whom he was setting forth and testifying to the kingdom of God and persuading them about Jesus, both from the law of Moses and from the prophets, from morning until evening. 24 And some were persuaded by the things said, but others disbelieved. 25 And being discordant toward one another, they were dismissed, Paul having spoken one word: "Well, the Holy Spirit spoke through Isaiah the prophet to your fathers." 26 saying, "Go to this people and say, 'Hearing, you will hear and by no means understand, and seeing, you will see and by no means perceive.'" 27 For the heart of this people has become fat, and with their ears they have heard heavily, and they have closed their eyes, lest they see with their eyes and hear with their ears and understand with the heart and turn back, and I heal them. 28 Therefore let it be known to you that this salvation of God has been sent to the Gentiles; they will listen. 30 He remained there for a whole two years in his own rented quarters, and he welcomed all who came to him. 31 proclaiming the kingdom of God and teaching the things concerning the Lord Jesus Christ with all boldness, unhindered.
